Writing materials of all kinds provide children the opportunity to use and develop literacy skills. We continue to observe an increased interest in writing. Throughout the kinder curriculum the children have enjoyed writing messages and notes to the fairies and receiving personalized letters in return. The construction area has encouraged children to write lists of materials required (bricks, paint, pipes), reminders, draw plans and write safety signs. Other children have shown an interest in book making, drawing and dictating stories and then having them read out to the group during story-time. Children are learning that writing can carry meaning across time and space. They are learning that writing means the same when it is read as when we wrote it.
